spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning started early this year. One of our favorite parts of the house is the kitchen. Thus, the reason why our kitchen is a chaotic mess most of the time.

declutter project: organize kitchen shelf where most basic items live.

There are times when nothing in the world is better than being in bed. How can you compete with fresh linen, the afternoon's rays, web browsing, Celtic music, and favorite mags?  The almost perfect Sunday Bliss.

at last.

It seems like forever until this day. Spring has finally sprung and I wish it would stay forever. I love this time of the yr, when cherry blossoms bloom, the weather is perfect almost daily, and everything that has been dormant for the last season is coming to life.

Today, I celebrate the arrival of spring by going to the hillside and clipped newly bloomed daffodils. I also started to plant some seedlings, hopeful that they would germinate pretty quickly.

fresh cut daffodils.

Create your own greenhouse: it's so easy, you should try it, really.

Creating a greenhouse enables your seeds to quickly grow in the best environment possible. After your seeds germinate, they may be transferred to your garden or favorite pots. I used the Burpee 72 cell greenhouse kit.

Above are a few  items needed to create your own greenhouse- seeds, plant labels, + growing pellets.

label your seeds.

sweet basil seeds- great for making pesto.

growing pellets (coconut fibers) - these must be placed in planting trays the right way in order for correct expansion. always place pellets flat side down, refer to the right side pellet in the pic.

Also, have a cup of warm h20 handy.

32 cell planting tray: noticed how pellets are placed.

slowly pour warm h2o into each cell. pellets will begin to expand in secs.

place 1 or 2 seeds in each cell. the ones shown above are sugar snap peas. make sure the expanded pellets completely cover the seeds.

once all seeds are planted, cover  the planting tray w/ a plastic cover. greenhouse complete.

plants will begin to grow in 1 to 2 weeks. among the seeds that I've planted are sugar snap peas, cucumber, bells of island, asters, snapdragons, and cleome.

mission accomplished!

farmer's market + a beautiful spring like day

One of my favorite pleasures is go to the farmer's market on beautiful, breezy Saturdays. The market never fails to deliver fresh produce with the cheapest prices...$1 for 10 limes, $.50 pineapples, etc. I've been to Haymarket for the last 2 yrs. and am always still in awe at the selections + prices.

Latest finds: seabass for $3/lb and an enormous bag of spring mix  for $3. We've never been brave enough to buy seafood at the market but couldn't resist trying the seabass. We consumed our daily finds for dinner...

spring mix salad w/ english cukes, tomatoes, + bosc pears

raspberry pomegranate vinaigerette + homemade basalmic vinaigerette

steamed seabass in soy sauce topped w/ fresh julienne ginger, cinlantro, + scallions.

next time, we'll try roast seabass!

let it be.

no rhyme.  no reason. what's meant to be, will be.
